Concern over steep water supply tariff
Shillong [TST] : Expressing grief over the exorbitant rate of water supply, the Jaintia Students' Union (JSU) has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister DD Lapang to bring to his notice the sudden increase in the amount charged for drinking water from Rs 30 to Rs 194 per month as effected since November last year. "We met the authorities since the Presidential Rule in the State to inform them about this basic problem, but it was all in vain," JSU general secretary Rikut Parien told the media here on Tuesday while setting a one month deadline to re-fix the rate.
