State gears up to cope with tourist inflow
SHILLONG [TST] : In tourism, Darjeeling's and Kashmir's loss is Meghalaya's gain. Last year the tourist inflow to the state was 4,62,952, out of which 4,57,685 were domestic tourists and 5,267 were of foreign origin. The number has doubled since 2002. But Shillong has a total of only 600 rooms in all the hotels. While a few bed and breakfast facilities have come up in different parts of the city these are inadequate to cope up with the tourist inflow.
