SHILLONG [TST] : The BSF special Director General (Eastern Sector) R K Medhkar has said the proposed revival of traditional border haats (markets) will not create any security problem.
Talking to reporter here on Monday, he said the Government was in the process of preparing all the minute details of the border haats which would become operational very soon.
It may be mentioned that India and Bangladesh recently agreed to revive five traditional border haats at Dawki, Borsora and Shella in Khasi and Jaintia Hills and two in Garo Hills.
"We will work together with Customs and the local police would provide security to these border haats once they are operationalised,'' he said.
About other BSF's activities in the region, Mr Medhkar said the BSF would raise 29 more battalions in the next five years "so that our borders can be properly guarded".
Stating that the situation along the Indo-Bangla border was normal, he said there was no increase in the militant activities along the international boundary.
