SHILLONG [TST] : The annual Autumn Festival came to an end with a lot of fanfare and festivity at the Orchid Lake Resort, Umiam on Sunday. A large number of revellers including tourists from far off places had a gala time and enjoyed the event, held in the backdrop of the enchanting Umiam Lake.
On the last day of the festivities members of the Red Orleanders, a socio-cultural club, performed traditional dances of Bengal. A ride on the hot air balloon was an added attraction. The balloon specially brought from Jaipur took people to a height of forty metres - of course at a price.
A fashion show was organised on the occasion which was interspersed by a sprinkling of singing and dancing in between which kept the crowd warm on the chilly autumn night.
Later, Afflatus, an all girls' band and Five Little Indians from Kolkata performed leaving the crowd high in spirits.
A tourist from Guwahati, Alok Sharma was thrilled. "I had the time of my life this weekend," he said.
The Autumn Festival started on October 31 with a parade comprising colourful floats depicting this year's theme "Enchanting Folklores". This year's festivities included crowd-pulling events like Wine Festival, a paint ball championship, a futsal competition and a first ever dog show competition.
