:: Shillong meet to discuss impact of insurgency ::

SHILLONG [TST] : The four-day North East Commonwealth Parliamentary Association conference, scheduled to be held here from January 28, is going to discuss the impact of insurgency in the social and economic development of the region.
Apart from presiding officers of the state Assemblies, several important leaders particularly the Opposition leaders of these Houses will be attending the conference. The Speaker of Lok Sabha, Chairman of Rajya Sabha, West Bengal Speaker and other officials are expected to attend the conference as observers.
The Meghalaya Assembly Secretary W M Rymbai on Monday said during two-day business session of the conference various subjects pertaining to the region would be discussed.
A Manipur Assembly committee is reportedly preparing a paper with regard to the ground situation of the state relating to one of the theme of the meet- "Impact of Insurgency on the Social and Economic Development.
The Manipur report would present in detail the impact of the spate of kidnapping of by underground elements, attack on houses with bombs on extortion demand and influence in the living condition of people. One point would about the delay in the developmental activities because of insurgency.
The counter-insurgency operations in Manipur, killing of people without trial are likely to be presented at the conference.
